For fans of the laugh-out-loud diving comedy, Grand Blue, the past six years have felt like an eternity. The anime, which premiered in July 2018, quickly became a cult classic, captivating audiences with its unique blend of coming-of-age story and outrageous slapstick humor.

While the single season left viewers wanting more, a recent rumor has sent a wave of excitement crashing through the Grand Blue fandom. Anime insider Sugoi Lite ignited speculation with a leaked tweet suggesting Grand Blue Season 2 is currently in development.

While there’s no official confirmation yet from Zero-G, the animation studio behind the first season, or Kodansha, the manga publisher, the rumor has fueled hope. When Can We Expect a Grand Blue Season 2 Announcement?

While we eagerly await official confirmation, the rumor of a second season has fans speculating about a potential announcement date. Just making an educated guess here but here’s when we think the 2nd season might be released-

  1. The first season premiered in July 2018. Studios often like to announce new seasons around the anniversary of a show’s premiere to capitalize on existing fan interest. Therefore, June or July 2024 could be a possibility.

  2. Studios also understand the power of building anticipation. An announcement too early might leave fans waiting impatiently. Late May 2024 could be a strategic time to drop the news, keeping the excitement simmering without an agonizing wait.

  3. Typically, announcements for new anime seasons come a few months before the premiere date. Given the rumor of development being in its early stages, a premiere date in late 2024 or even early 2025 seems more likely.

Summer’s end brings the return of school, leaving Iori and his pals yearning for some unforgettable summer memories. A planned get-together to meet girls takes a hilarious turn when Iori, the only one who knows everyone attending, finds himself caught between them and some unwelcome party crashers with less-than-noble intentions.

Winning a lottery ticket becomes an unexpected catalyst for romance. Iori convinces Chisa, his childhood friend, to join him on an island getaway to Okinawa. A jealous Aina, determined to sabotage any potential romance, secretly tags along, dragging the hapless Kohei into her scheme. This hilarious arc promises botched hotel bookings, a heartbroken otaku (computer geek) named Nanaka who gets tangled in the mess, and even a little diving amidst the romantic chaos.

Believing Iori to be a newfound lottery millionaire, Sakurako, the ever-aggressive school nurse, seizes her chance. Aina launches a desperate counteroffensive, and soon friends from both sides are embroiled in the fray. With Sakurako clinging to Iori like a starfish on a rock, the nights in Okinawa escalate quickly.

4. Kaya Wedding Arc (Volumes 18 & 19 – Chapters 70-76)

Nanaka is furious after discovering Chisa lied about their Okinawa trip. Suspecting Iori of manipulating her sister, she plots her revenge. Meanwhile, Iori struggles to resist Sakurako’s relentless pursuit.

An accidental hypnosis session sends Chisa head over heels for Iori, forcing him to defend himself against the wrath of his “buddies” who believe he’s using some underhanded method to win her affection. The PAB crew (the diving club) then receives an invitation to a formal event: Kaya Mizuki’s wedding reception. This formal occasion presents a terrifying challenge for the boys – maintaining their composure and keeping their clothes on! Can they navigate the social graces of a wedding without causing any uproarious disruptions?

Where to Watch Grand Blue?

The anime adaptation, directed by Shinji Takamatsu, masterfully captured the essence of the manga’s humor and the stunning visuals of the underwater world. The anime’s unique blend of humor and heart resonates with viewers, making them yearn for Iori’s next underwater adventure (or hilarious mishap).
